Four dead as Trump supporters storm US Capitol, PM Modi condemns attack

At least four people have died ongoing attack by pro-Donald Trump crowd at the US Capitol. Lawmakers were forced to go into hiding as the attackers made an attempt to overturn America’s presidential election where Joe Biden defeated Mr Trump.

The  200-year-old building was last attacked in by the British in an 1812 war.

US President-elect Joe Biden said in a statement, “To storm the Capitol, to smash windows, to occupy offices, and to threaten the safety of duly elected officials is not protest. It is insurrection. The world is watching – and like so many other Americans, I am shocked and saddened that our nation, so long a beacon of light, hope, and democracy has come to such a dark moment.”

All the four Indian-American Democratic lawmakers — Dr Ami Bera, Pramila Jayapal, Ro Khanna and Raja Krishnamoorthi — have also expressed disgust.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condemned the attack and tweeted early Thursday, “Distressed to see news about rioting and violence in Washington DC. Orderly and peaceful transfer of power must continue. The democratic process cannot be allowed to be subverted through unlawful protests.”
