Haryana CM, Speaker test covid positive as state registers 55,460 cases and 613 deaths

Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, along with Vidhan Sabha Speaker Gian Chand Gupta, have tested positive for COVID-19. Khattar urged colleagues to get themselves tested and tweeted, “I was tested for Novel Coronavirus today. My test report has returned positive. I appeal to all colleagues and associates who came in my contact over the last week to get themselves tested. I request my close contacts to move into strict quarantine immediately”.

Last week, the minister had attended a meeting with Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat who was infected with the fatal disease. Khattar was then tested for coronavirus on August 21, 2020 and his reports were found negative. He was already self-quarantined at his residence since the test. After getting tested again on August 24, 2020 (Monday), the reports came positive.

Vidhan Sabha Speaker Gian Chand Gupta has also self-isolated himself after testing positive for COVID-19 on Monday. Gupta also requested associated to get themselves tested via micro-blogging site. He wrote, “Yesterday I had my COVID-19 test done and the report came positive. My health is fine, but I am getting home quarantined on the advice of doctors. I request that all of you who have come in contact with me in the past few days, please isolate yourself and get your inquiry done.”

Political Secretary and nephew of Speaker Gupta earlier tested positive for contagious disease. Besides Gupta, numerous MLA’s from Haryana including Aseem Goel, representing Amabala City constituency and Ram Kumar Kashyap representing assembly constituency tested positive for coronavirus infection.

Haryana has reported 1074 new infections over past 24 hours, taking the total to 55,460. With the recovery rate of 81.87%, 45,405 have been discharged from the hospitals and the death toll for the state stands at 613. Gurugram alone has recorded 11,062 covid cases till date. The recovery rate in Gurugram remains as high as 91.35%.

According to the latest data, India has conducted 3.6 crore tests for coronavirus so far and 31,06,348 confirmed coronavirus cases have been registered so far with a whopping 61,408 infections in the past 24 hours alone. Meanwhile, 57,542 got succumbed to the virus.
