Joe Biden, Kamala Harris voted to power in the USA, Indians cheer their victory

Many Indians and several others across the world are cheering newly-elected president and vice-president of the United States of America – Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. After much confusion and chaotic drama online, the results were finally announced and Biden is the new US President while Harris became the first woman of colour to be chosen as US vice-president.

Vice President-elect Kamala Harris talked about her mother Shyamala Gopalan. “I’m grateful to the woman most responsible for my presence here today, my mother, Shyamala Gopalan Harris. When she came here from India at the age of 19, she may not have quite imagined this moment. But she believed so deeply in America, where a moment like this is possible. And so I’m thinking about her and generations of women, black women, Asian, White, Latina, Native American women who throughout our nation’s history have paved the way for this moment tonight,” she said.

“While I may be the first woman in this office, I won’t be the last. Because every little girl watching tonight sees that this is a country of possibilities,” she said.

Several Indian politicians and celebrities as well as general public are cheering on the new elected representatives in the USA. Check out some of the tweets:
