Lalu Yadav sentenced to 5yrs’ jail, son reacts

Years after being named in the fodder scam, Lalu Yadav was sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment. This is the fifth fodder scam he has been convicted in.

After being sentenced to 14 years of jail in four cases related to Dumka, Chaibasa and Deoghar treasuries in 2013, the RJD chief got bail and was later convicted in another case in 2017. In January and March 2018, he was convicted in two other fodder scam-related cases.

The former Bihar chief minister has been in jail since Dec 2017. Responding to the development, his son Tejashwi Yadav said in a press conference in Patna, “We respect the court’s verdict. It should be respected. Otherwise it would be contempt of court. But people are reacting as if it (fodder case) was the only scam in the country. There had been some 80-odd scams in Bihar. Has any action been taken against anyone? What about cases against some influential businessmen in the country?”
