Delhi roads, metro traffic affected after CM Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested late Thursday after the Directorate of Enforcement questioned him in relation with the ongoing probe in the alleged liquor scam case. Hours after the arrest, Kejriwal’s party Aam Aadmi Party has called nationwide protests. The precautionary measures taken by Delhi Police have affected traffic on Delhi roads as well as metro trains.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation announced Friday morning that the ITO Metro station will remain closed from 08:00 AM to 06:00 PM on March 22. It added that the station will remain closed as per advice received from Delhi Police. Road traffic will also be affected on Krishna Menon Marg, Motilal Nehru Marg, Janpath, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Road. Commuters are advised to avoid these stretches till further notice, an advisory from Delhi traffic police said.

Several ED officers along with heavy deployment of police and paramilitary forces were seen near Kejriwal’s residence in Delhi Thursday evening. Amid speculations over whether the Delhi CM would be arrested after failing to appear for several summons issued by the ED, the CM was questioned in the liquor case.
