West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has injured herself during her campaign for the upcoming state assembly elections. Soon after the accident, she told reporters she plans to be back soon and campaign before the polls.
Mamata was campaigning in Nandigram in West Bengal when, while standing on the footboard of her vehicle, she injured her foot following a rush of crowd that resulted in the door shutting on her. Both the ruling TMC and BJP are blaming each other for the accident. The CM told reporters, “Of course it is a conspiracy…it was intentional. There were no local policemen around me”.
However, when speaking from the hospital, she did not talk of any conspiracy. “It is true that I was very badly hurt yesterday and that I have a foot injury, a bone injury and in the ligament and I had pain in my head and chest as a result of the injury. I was greeting people from the car bonnet and a huge pressure came….and the car crushed my foot,” she said.
