Lockdown imposed in Nagpur from March 15-21, Maharashtra on high alert

After cautiously treading the path for a few days, the Maharashtra state government decided to impose lockdown in Nagpur, in wake of increasing coronavirus cases in the town. It will remain in force from March 15 to March 21.

As per a list released by the union health ministry, eight out of top ten districts with highest active covid 19 cases are in Maharashtra. Pune has 18,474 active cases, which is the highest in India. It is followed by Nagpur (12,724), Thane (10.460), Mumbai (9,973).

According to ministry data, Bengaluru Urban has 5,526 cases while Ernakulam 5,430 active cases. Amravati has 5,259 registered active cases and Jalgaon has 5,029 cases. Nashik has 4.525 cases and Aurangabad has 4,354.

On Thursday, Maharashtra recorded the highest single-day spike with over 14,000 new infections in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, state chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, who took the covid 19 vaccine Thursday, told reporters, “Some areas of Maharashtra will witness strict lockdown measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus infection. The government is going to hold a special meeting with officials before coming out with the lockdown measures.”

He also said, “There is no need for anyone to have any fear or confusion about the COVID vaccine. I have just been vaccinated & I am standing right in front of you. So, it is my humble appeal to all my citizens who are eligible for vaccination to go get it without any doubt in their minds.”
