Anand Patwardhan’s Jai Bhim Comrade, Heart To Art to land on Cinemapreneur, India’s OTT for indie films

Filmmaker Anand Patwardhan is all set to premiere his latest short documentary Heart to Art and another feature film on Cinemapreneur – a new Indian platform meant exclusively for indie filmmakers in the country. Jai Bhim Comrade will also be available on the platform.

Anand is known for his socio-political films and some of his films explore the rise of religious fundamentalism, sectarianism and casteism in India, while others investigate nuclear nationalism and unsustainable development practices.

Speaking about the development, Anand said, “In this current pandemic, we are all restricted to our homes with festivals taking a hit in the physical world. When I got to know about Cinemapreneur, I wanted to experiment with this new age viewing of films over an OTT platform. I wish them all the luck and am excited to contribute my new 10 min short documentary which was shot in 2004 but edited during Covid times.”

Dalits on the sub-continent have faced the worst forms of oppression for thousands of years. Triggered by an unwarranted police firing that killed 10 Dalits in Mumbai in 1997 and shot over 14 years, Jai Bhim Comrade follows the poetry and music of people like Vilas Ghogre that mark a subaltern tradition of reason that, from the days of the Buddha, has fought superstition and religious bigotry.
