Yuvraj Singh’s 6 sixes: 6 commitments he urges fans to pledge to eradicate cancer

Iconic cricketer and cancer survivor Yuvraj Singh became the first cricketer to hit six sixes in an over in a T20I on September 19 13 years ago. Speaking about the day, Yuvraj said, “This day is etched in my memory as a momentous one, a very important piece of my life’s journey. Hence there could not be a better day to talk to and educate people about cancer and encourage everyone to come together to fight this deadly disease.”

As a part of the digital campaign, Yuvraj’s video (#SixSixesAgainstCancer) encourages Indians to educate themselves and their families on cancer and take 6 commitments to help eradicate the deadly disease from the country.

The video opens with a throwback to Yuvraj’s 6 sixes. Yuvraj then highlights the unfortunate times we are all in and how it has been difficult for cancer patients to receive timely medication due to this global crisis. Hence, Yuvraj pledges to continue working for the cause of cancer through his YouWeCan Foundation. On this 13th anniversary of 6 sixes, he encourages everyone to take 6 pledges: Opt for cancer screening as early detection can save lives, flick away the misinformation through a correct understanding of cancer, become a source of motivation for those who are battling this disease, big or small – we have to make an effort to save all as each life is precious in this fight, a little effort on everyone’s part can change the world and last but not least, together lets hit cancer straight out of the park. #SixSixesAgainstCancer

Yuvraj Singh, a cancer survivor himself, is passionate about the cause and is committed to empowering Indians to fight cancer with the YouWeCan (YWC) Foundation. His difficult journey with cancer inspired him to help Indians with limited access to quality healthcare services, either due to a lack of awareness or meager finances. Yuvraj wishes to give back to the society that supported him immensely during his difficult times. The YouWeCan Foundation believes that the key to fighting cancer in India lies in better awareness, more screening, and in providing treatment support and survivor empowerment. Initiatives by YWC Foundation have resulted in 150,000+ people being screened for different types of cancers, 30,000 women sensitized on self-breast examination, 150 cancer survivor students supported through the YWC Scholarship, and much more.
