The market continued to dip on Monday, with the soaring oil prices amid the worsening Russia-Ukraine war. Sensex and Nifty, the key indices of Indian stock markets, hit the lowest level in eight months. The Sensex started the day at 53,172.51 points and tumbled to a low of 52,367.10 points in the intra-day. The Sensex closed 1491.06 points, 2.74 per cent down at 52,842.75 points.
Oil prices have soared to the highest level in 14 years and rupee has plunged to a record low.
Nifty slipped below 16,000 points mark and closed 382.20 points down at 15,863.15 points.
