Chairperson of National Commission for Women (NCW) Rekha Sharma wrote to Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Chouhan seeking appropriate punishment against Special DG Purushottam Sharma for abusing his wife. The CM has dismissed DG Sharma from his duties.
“Purushottam Sharma, DG, MP Public Prosecution Directorate has been transferred and relieved from his duties with immediate effect,” the official handle for CM Chouhan tweeted Monday afternoon.
A video of DG Sharma beating his wife came up online and created an uproar, forcing the MP govt take action against him.
Soon after the video surfaced online, DG Sharma had told ANI, “We’ve been married for 32 years, in 2008 she had complained against me. But the point is, since 2008 she has been living in my house, enjoying all facilities & travelling abroad on my expenses. If my nature is abusive then she should’ve complained earlier. This is a family dispute, not a crime. I am neither a violent person nor a criminal. It is unfortunate that I have to go through this. My wife stalks me & has put cameras in the house.”
“Such incidents send a wrong message to the society,” NCW said in a statement.
