Indian army helicopter crashes in JK, search for pilots continues

Hours after reports of an Indian army chopper crash came, local cops have confirmed that the pilot and co-pilot of the helicopter are yet to be traced. The crash occured near Ranjit Sagar Dam lake, located 30 km from Pathankot, in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua.

An NDRF team has been sent for the search. The crash happened at a place bordering Punjab, Himachal Pradesh as well as Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier, reports had suggested that an Indian army helicopter, possibly a Dhruv/RUDRA, crashed near the Ranjit Sagar Dam in the Basohli area of Kathua Tuesday morning in Jammu and Kashmir.

Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh tweeted, “Concerned over the news of an Army helicopter crash at Ranjit Sagar Dam, Pathankot. District Administration has rushed teams to the location, rescue operations are underway.”

“We have received information that an army helicopter has crashed in the lake. We have rushed our teams to the spot,” superintendent of police of Punjab Pathankot, Surendra Lamba told Hindustan Times.

Meanwhile, Kathua SSP Ramesh Kotwal confirmed the chopper crash, adding that there both pilots onboard are safe.
