Delhi reopens cinemas with 50% capacity, MAI thanks Lt Gov Baijal, CM Kejriwal

Hours after the Delhi government announced re-opening of cinemas and ended the weekend lockdown, the Multiplex Association of India (MAI) thanked Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.

In a statement shared with the media, MAI president Kamal Gianchandani thanked the government for listening and acting on Indian Film Industry’s collective call made to the Government of Delhi for allowing reopening of cinemas. This decision will give the cinema industry, the necessary impetus to recover from the impact of the on-going pandemic.

“With cases falling & vaccinations rising, a quick and timely decision by the Delhi Government to restore 100% seating capacity and removing the ‘night curfews’ will be the other vital requisites for the revival of the film industry. Governments across the world are maintaining a balanced approach to COVID-19 measures, and are considering the health of economy together with the public health concerns. We remain committed to the safety and hygiene protocols as advised by various State Government, and urge all our State Governments to allow us to operate without restrictions on seating capacity or the business operating hours,” he added.
