Covid 19 vaccination drive begins Jan 16: ‘Public representatives are not on the priority list’

Soon after the festivals of Pongal, Bihu, Lohri, the central government will kick-start the drive forcovid 19 vacination. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured that the PM CARES fund will bear the expenses for the first phase of the vaccination. PM Modi spoke after holding a meeting with chief ministers of various states.

“We had a detailed discussion with all officers, including those from district level, and realised they will play an important role in the vaccination drive. Centre, not states, will bear expenses for first-phase vaccination of three crore corona warriors and frontline workers,” he said.

PM Modi added, “We have to continue creating public awareness, but the maximum awareness is required after the second and third round when we complete three crore vaccinations. Public representatives are not on the priority list. Only the frontline and healthcare workers are on the list. The fight against coronavirus is an example of India’s federalism.”
