Bihar elections 2020: ECI announces dates, safety norms amid covid 19

In one of the largest voting scheduled to be held in the post-covid 19 world, Bihar elections are all set to be held next month and the Election Commission of India has announced the dates. Bihar assembly elections will be held in three phases – on October 28, November 3 and November 7, and the counting of votes will be held on November 10.

The ECI also laid down guidelines for nominations to ensure social distancing and safety measures amid the pandemic. The number of people accompanying a candidate for submission of nomination and the number of vehicles to be used has been restricted to two each. The number of people allowed to accompany a candidate for door-to-door campaign has also been restricted to five.

As per the announcement, a small kit containing N 95 mask, sanitizer and gloves to will be provided to those on election duty. The packet will also contain one safety key chain to avoid use of hands while pressing buttons.

Responding to the announcement, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi tweeted, “BJP and NDA are fully prepared. Those who wanted to postpone elections are being forced to welcome. PM-CM will appeal to vote on the basis of face and work of Center and State. #BiharElections2020.”

The total number of Assembly Constituencies are 243. Out of 243 , 38 constituencies are reserved for SCs and 02 for STs.
