Allahabad HC slams EC, UP govt for ignoring covid 19 precautions amid polls

In yet another landmark and bold development, Allahabad high court has slammed the Uttar Pradesh state government and election commission of India (ECI) for overseeing the looming danger while conducting the recently held polls.

The State Government is having tough time in controlling the spread of novel corona virus in urban areas and it would be very difficult to conduct the test, detect and treat the village population found suffering from novel corona virus. The State lacks preparation and resources for the same at present,”  single-judge Justice Siddharth hearing the case, said on Tuesday.

The court also observed that the crime rate in villages is quite high, adding that given the infrastructure, the spread of covid 19 infections may not be even detected for villagers, causing further harm due to lack of treatment.

“The apprehension of an accused being infected with novel corona virus before and after his arrest and the possibilty of his spreading the same while coming into contact with the police, Court and jail personnels or vice-versa can be considered to be a valid ground for grant of anticipatory bail to an accused,” it added.
