Independence Day: PM Modi’s speech mentions key developments for women, farmers’ welfare

After unfurling the national flag, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on the occasion of 74th Independence Day Saturday and paid his tributes to all the warriors and freedom fighter for their services to defend the freedom and safety of the country.  

During his speech, Modi also mentioned a few schemes (that have been in action or will be launched soon) for welfare of the people. Here’s a look at some of the key pointers:

1. Health card for every Indian
Modi said, “National Digital Health Mission will begin from today. This will bring in a new revolution.” One digital health card will have all details of medical history including the diseases, treatments and the consultations.

2.Connecting the villages

Announcing a package of Rs 1 lakh crore for improving agriculture infrastructure in the country, Modi said, “All villages will have optical fibre network within 1000 days.” The government has identified 110 underdeveloped districts.

3.Connecting Andaman and Nicobar
The PM also announced the launch of Optical Fibre Connectivity in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and connecting Lakshadweep in the next 100 days.

4. Sanitary pads for Rs 1
In his speech, Modi also talked about women-friendly projects to uplift the womenfolk of the country and said that women hold about 70% of mudra loans.  He also mentioned the distribution of 5 crore sanitary pads at Rs. 1 each across 6,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras.

5. Covid 19 vaccines
The PM also elaborated on a roadmap for the production and distribution of coronavirus vaccines. He said that our scientists are working restlessly.  “There are 3 vaccines under development in India,” he said.
