Dense fog, severe cold wave predicted for coming five days

The Indian Metereological department has predicted very dense fog for the next five days in major parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand.

IMD said cold wave and severe cold conditions are likely to continue over plains of Northwest India during next three days.

On Saturday, lower intensity fog and better visibility was registered in the national capital, and nearby areas. Bihar reported dense fog over the weekend.

Saturday, Sunday and Monday will likely witness cold wave and very dense fog conditions in Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Punjab, Haryana, Bihar, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh.

IMD also said, “Jet Stream Winds of the order of 130-140 knots at 12.6 km above mean sea level are prevailing over the plains of North India. It is leading to subsidence of cold air and enhancing
cold wave/cold day conditions over North India. Similar intensity of Jet Stream is likely to continue during next few days.

Moderate rainfall is also expected in isolated places in Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal & Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh on 19th January and a fresh spell likely over East &
Northeast India from 23rd January.
