Uttrakhand avalanche: More than 50 dead and 150 missing, PM offers Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia to victims’ families

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to the tragic avalanche caused by a Glacier breach in Chamoli, Uttarakhand.  He has also approved an amount of  Rs. 50,000 for those seriously injured.

Massive floods, in Dhauli Ganga and Alaknanda Rivers, followed a glacial break in the Tapovan-Reni area of Chamoli District (Uttarakhand) Sunday. At least 150 are feared missing in the calamity while 50 people have died Responding to the tragic incident, the PM tweeted, “Am constantly monitoring the unfortunate situation in Uttarakhand. India stands with Uttarakhand and the nation prays for everyone’s safety there. Have been continuously speaking to senior authorities and getting updates on NDRF deployment, rescue work and relief operations.”

PMO tweeted about the ex-gratia: “PM @narendramodi has approved an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF for the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to the tragic avalanche caused by a Glacier breach in Chamoli, Uttarakhand. Rs. 50,000 would be given to those seriously injured.”
