Congress party has won six out of eight municipal corporation elections in Punjab that went to poll recently. Results of Abohar, Kapurthala, Bathinda, Hoshiarpur, Moha and Pathankot have been declared while those of Batala and Mohali are awaited.
Nearly 117 civic bodies went to polls in Punjab earlier this week, including 109 municipal councils and eight municipal corporations.
The state ruling party won 37/50 seats while the BJP bagged 11, in Pathankot.
As per the final tally, Congress won ten wards in Kharar while SAD bagged eight. Independent candidates won eight and AAP won one.
Of the 9,222 candidates contesting the elections, 2,832 are fighting as Independents.
