The Election Commission of India (ECI) has released the schedule for the upcoming Lok Sabha election. The voting will commence on April 19 and will be conducted in seven phases – the last phase scheduled for June 1. The counting of votes will take place on June 4, and by June 6, the entire election process will be completed.
In the sixth phase, Gurugram and Delhi will cast their votes on May 25, while Noida is scheduled for the second phase on April 26.
It is anticipated that around 14.7 million eligible voters in the national capital will exercise their right to vote and elect their Members of Parliament.
Currently, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) holds all seven Lok Sabha seats and 8 out of the 70 seats in the Delhi assembly. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has a majority with 62 seats in the assembly.
Both the AAP and the Congress in Delhi are determined to challenge the BJP’s dominance in the seven Lok Sabha seats. The BJP aims for a consecutive clean sweep and will rely on factors such as the popularity of Prime Minister Modi, as well as their core campaign issues like the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), and the abrogation of Article 370.
AAP will contest in four seats – New Delhi, South Delhi, West Delhi, and East Delhi – while the Congress candidates will compete in Chandni Chowk, North East Delhi, and North West constituencies. In the previous election, the BJP candidates won all seven seats, surpassing the combined votes of the Congress and AAP candidates. However, this time, the Congress and AAP are determined to disrupt the BJP’s plans.
