Farmers slam govt efforts for talks, call it ways to ‘trick’ them

Sarvan Singh Pandher of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee has said the central government’s letter requesting further talks is not a “step forward” but just a way to “trick farmers”. Mr Pandher was speaking Addressing at the Singhu border near Delhi on Tuesday. The protest being staged against the recently passed three farm bills, entered its 27th day on Tuesday.

“Government has decided its position regarding the farm laws that they’ll not be withdrawn. They released a letter stating that if farmers want amendments in these laws, they want date and time for discussion. This is not a step forward by the government but a way to trick farmers. A normal person would think that farmers are stubborn but the fact is that we don’t seek amendments in farm laws, we want them to be completely shunned,” he said, according to ANI.

At least five rounds of formal talks have been held between representatives of 41 farmers unions and the central government. However, govt maintains the position that the laws are not anti-farmers, and MSP will not be abolished. The government refuses to repeal the laws. On the other hand, the unions have refused to budge for any kind of amendment and demand complete call back of the laws.
