Farmers’ protest: Leaders reject govt proposals, to boycott Reliance, Adani

Refusing to accept the written offer from the central government, farmer bodies have announced a roadmap of their protest at a press conference held Wednesday evening

Here are the important pointers:

  1. Farmers plan to boycott Reliance Jio, Ambani and Adani-owned fuel stations and shopping malls across the country.
  2. They will start blocking roads and Delhi-Jaipur, Delhi-Agra roads will be the first ones to be blocked on December 12.
  3. No toll tax to be paid across the country on December 12.
  4. Farmers also plan to gherao BJP offices and leaders.
  5. A protest will also be held on December 14.

The Centre had offered a written assurance on the continuation of minimum support price (MSP)-based procurement in Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) mandis, to farmers protesting against the three new agricultural laws. The government had sent the written assurance along with the 20-page proposals.

As the sit-in protest continued near Delhi borders, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, who was also detained earlier this week, tweeted, “The farmers’ agitation is also a movement to restore the democratic values of India. There should be participation of general public in all decisions of the government…To save democracy, every citizen of the country is also becoming emotionally connected with the farmers’ agitation.”
