Doctors seek better infrastructure, urge Delhi Gov to reconsider suspension of four docs

Two days after four doctors were suspended from GTB Hospital following the death of a Delhi citizen earlier this month, the Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association has condemned putting the entire blame on the doctors. In a letter to Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, FORDA listed out technical problems that the hospital has been facing for sometime now.

FORDA said in a statement, “We condemn Delhi Government’s draconian order to terminate four doctors. We urge Hon’ble LG to intervene and help resolve this public pleasing tactic, which is a direct threat to doctors in Delhi.”

The letter also said that the patient was “shuttled between four hospitals—Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, GTB Hospital. Lok Nayak Hospital, and ultimately RML hospital”.

It added that GTB Hospital has reported non-functional CT scan machines for the past two months.

The letter said, “Placing the entire blame on the ‘doctors on duty’ is unjust and indicative of a systemic failure that goes beyond individual responsibilities. Such actions, in essence. are an attempt to deflect accountability and unfairly target those mho tirelessly serve the citizens in challenging conditions. The recent orders of dismissal and suspension against the doctors involved are a disheartening response to a complex situation that warrants a thorough and impartial investigation.”

Citing all the reasons why the decision is a bad one, the doctors have urged LG office to revoke the dismissal and suspension orders of the doctors involved until a thorough inquiry is completed.

They also demand an investigation into the deficiencies in healthcare infrastructure in GTB Hospital and other state-run hospitals, as well as allocate “necessary funds and resources to ensure the timely repair and maintenance of medical equipment, in all Delhi hospital.
