Covid 19 updates: Delhi health minister fears third wave

India crossed 80.8 lakh covid 19 cases with a fresh 49881 cases reported in past 24 hours alone. The country has seen 121,131 covid 19 deaths. Meanwhile, the world has had 4.5 crore cases and 1,186,243 deaths till date.

With 5,673 new covid 19 cases on Wednesday, Delhi saw the highest single-day spike for the second day. On Tuesday, the national capital had reported 4,853 cases, which was its highest since 4,473 on September 16. Delhi’s health minister Satyendar Jain said,”It is too early to say that Delhi is experiencing the third wave of Covid-19 cases. We must wait for another week in order to definitively say that, but it is possible we’re already in that phase.”

“We’ve made some changes to our strategy. Now, when a person tests positive, we also test his entire family and close contacts. We do this not once, but twice – the second time after four-five days,” he added. Delhi has had 370,014 cases and 6,396 deaths so far.

In wake of the spike, Delhi has also asked schools to remain closed. Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia announced that all schools will remain closed till further orders. Earlier, schools were ordered to stay closed till October 31.

The United States of America – the country with highest cases, has registered 9,212,767 patients and covid 19 234,177 till date.
