Covid 19: Govt claims deaths are happening because of late reporting, Maharashtra and Karnataka reimpose night curfew

The Indian government has claimed that covid deaths are low in the country even credited a portion of the mortality to people reporting late.

“Our analysis shows that most of the positive cases, who are serious, come to a hospital late; when their condition has fairly deteriorated. It is important to get tested and seek medical aid in time to avoid complications,” said Dr VK Paul told reporters.

“In India we are seeing 7,300 cases per million population currently and global figures show 9,600 cases getting reported per million population. That goes on to show that the country has managed to control the disease quite well,” union health secretary Rajesh Bhushan said.

India reported 23,950 new covid 19 cases over the past 24 hours and 333 covid deaths have been registered across the country.A total of  1,46,444 people have died due to covid in India.

Meanwhile, declaring night curfew for the state, Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar said, “This (night curfew) has been done to prevent and contain the coronavirus strain found in the UK. We are also monitoring international passengers arriving in the state.”

Amid concerns over the new variant of the virus, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered covid tests for all those who arrived in the state after November 25.
