Govt suspends internet in Singhu, Ghazipur and Tikri borders till Jan 31

As per the order from the union home ministry, internet has been suspended in Singhu, Ghazipur, Tikri borders and their adjoining areas, in wake of the violence amid the farmers protest that saw a revival recently after the emotional outburst of BKU leader Rakesh Tikait.

The internet was suspended from 11pm on January 29 and shall remain so till January 31, 11pm. “It is necessary and expedient to order the temporary suspension of internet services in the areas of Singhu, Ghazipur and Tikri, and their adjoining areas in the NCT of Delhi from 11 pm on January 29 to 11 pm on January 31,” the home ministry said in the order.

Earlier, farmers took out a sadbhavna rally near Singhu border on Friday to express their solidarity with the cause but the scene turned violent with the protesters resorting to stone pelting. Police also lathicharged and used tear gas shells on the agitators.
