Covid surge in India: Hospitals go for mock drills as coronavirus resurfaces

Fresh cases of coronavirus are on the rise in India and several of the new infections are suspected to of an Omicron variant. India recorded a total of 5,880 new cases in the last 24 hours. Central government and most state governments have adviced citizens to use masks at all crowded and public places.

They have also instrcuted hospitals across the country to conduct mock drills and ensure the hospitals are prepared for any unwaranted situation.

Kerala recorded 1,801 new cases while Maharashtra registered 788 and Delhi recorded 699 new coronavirus cases. Tamil Nadu registered 369 and Uttar Pradesh has 328 fresh covid cases.

Amid the covid surge, Haryana state government has made masks mandatory in public places once again. More than 200 cases were registered in Gurgaon alone. A statement from the state government said: “It has decided that wearing of face mask by the general public at all the public places, where there is a gathering of more than 100 people, government offices, malls, etc. is mandatory.”

Meanwhile, Bihar has recorded a death due to coronavirus in Gaya. A 70-year-old woman came from Makdumpur, Jehanabad, and was admitted to to the pilgrim hospital in Gaya, before she died.
