Responding to claim doing the rounds online on Saturday, the government press agency, Press Information Bureau issued a clarification that there are no plans to re-impose a nationwide lockdown later this month.
“An order purportedly issued by National Disaster Management Authority claims that it has directed the government to re-impose a nationwide lockdown from 25th September. This order is fake and the NDMA has not issued any such order to re-impose lockdown,” PIB said in a statement.
The panic around the ongoing pandemic is also obvious, given the ever-increasing number of fresh cases in the country. India has been reporting nearly 1 lakh new cases daily for a few days now and is second only to US in the highest number of daily fresh cases across the globe. While the recovery rate has drastically improved beyond 75%, the rising number of cases remain a matter of concern because of the lack of medical facilities available to most people.
