Karnataka govt shuts down schools, colleges for 3 days, bans gatherings for 2 weeks

Amid the controversy surrounding on college in Bengaluru over the issue of choice of dress for a section of the students, Karnataka state government has issued an order to ban protests around colleges and schools arcoss the state.

Bengaluru Commissioner of Police Kamal Pant said in a press statement that all gatherings, agitations, or protests of any type “within the area of 200-meter radius from the gate(s) of schools, PU colleges, degree colleges or other similar educational institutions in Bengaluru city, prohibited for two weeks with immediate effect.”

Earlier, CM Basavaraj Bommai had ordered that high schools and colleges in the state remain closed for three days in wake of the developments, being dubbed as “Hijab row”.
