Farmers’ protest: Bharat Band gets a mixed, peaceful response, farmers to meet Amit Shah at 7pm

The Bharat band call by farmers, mainly agitating in bordering areas of Delhi and Haryana, was peaceful and received a mixed response from across the country. Various parties, including most of the opposition parties, had extended support to the band call but normal life mostly remained unaffected. Meanwhile, home minister Amit Shah is scheduled to meet the representatives of the farmers Tuesday evening.

According to a The Hindu report, Punjab saw the maximum impact of the band and several shops and markets were closed on Tuesday. “Several group of farmers, members of government employee associations, trade bodies held sit-in (dharnas) on key roads, including national and State highways, besides railway tracks at few places, vehicular and rail traffic movement was severely disrupted. Public transport including buses and taxis were hardly seen plying on the roads. Fuel station were also seen closed in the State,” it said.

Celebs have also extended their support to the cause. SInger Harbhajan Mann tweeted, “The overwhelming unity worldwide for the #FarmersProstest, & people peacefully speaking up for this cause from all walks of life, is a big win for humanity. This zeal & will to peacefully do the right thing will be remembered by history.”

A News18 report said Mr Shah will delegation of farmer leaders led by Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) chief Rakesh Tikait Tuesday at 7pm.
