Dushyant Chautala seeks Haryana govt dissolution, tells CM ‘prove majority or resign’

A day after three independent members of the legislative assembly withdrew support from the Haryana government, JJP has sought resignation from chief minister Nayab Singh Saini if he cannot prove majority. Former deputy chief minister of the state and JJP leader Dushyant Chautala held a press conference on Wednesday and claimed he will write to the state governor urging the government to be dissolved.

Chautala’s statements come hours after Somveer Sangwan, Randhir Golan and Dharmpal Gonder pledged their support to the Congress in an event on Tuesday in the presence of former chief minister and Congress leader Bhupendra Singh Hooda. Gonder is the MLA from Nilokheri while Golan represents Pundri in the state assembly and Sangwan is the Charkhi Dadri MLA.

Chautala listed down the issues that the public is facing from the government and said Saini should resign out on moral grounds if he fails to prove his government’s majority in the assembly. He added that Hooda should “initiate the process of bringing the government down”. Asked if he’d support Congress to form a government if such a situation came, Chautala told reporters, “I am not saying JJP is willing to support and form a government with the Congress. At least the government that has lost trust of people, Hooda should initiate the process to bring it down.”

Following the development, the state government in now in minority in the assembly and speculations are rife over its stability. CM Saini’s government is two short of majority in the 90-seat house which has 88 members currently. Saini has the support of 40 members from his own party while three independent MLAs are also in his support, making it a team of 43. On the other hand, Congress had 30 seats before the recent switch and now holds support of 33 members. JJP has ten members in the house.

Saini also spoke to reporters on Wednesday and claimed that the government is not in trouble at all.
