The national capital, Delhi, recorded the highest spike of 1,877 positive cases mounting the total cases to 34,687 on Thursday. According to the daily bulletin released by government, Delhi is now the third worst affected state in the country after Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. A total of 20,871 people are still infected by COVID-19 while more than 12000 patients got discharged after recovery. The state has reported 1,085 deaths after 65 added in last 24 hours.
According to the Delhi Health Department, the present doubling rate in the national capital is 14 days which predicts 56,000 infections in the upcoming 2 weeks. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi’s premier healthcare facility, has planned to transform facilities from its newly-built ‘Burns and Plastic Block’ to treat the patients affected by COVID-19.
According to the officials, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh are the five most affected states of the country which may even face shortage of ICU beds and ventilators in coming months. The Central Government has eased the restrictions on borders to permit inter-state travel with urging the need for more hospital beds.

India is now the fourth worst affected country by COVID-19 after surpassing the United Kingdom. It recorded 2,86,579 cases in total while the death tally pushed beyond 8000 on Thursday. The number of cured patients has increased to 1,41,028, with this recovery rate reached to 49.21% which is higher than the number of active cases.
