Indian soldiers, sailors and air warriors can now get maternity, child care and adoption leaves, much like their officer counterparts. Union defence minister Rajnath Singh has approved the sanction of the leaves.
Currently, women in the defence forces 180 days of paid maternity leave for upto two children. In the entire service career, a total of 360 days of childcare leave is allowed if the child is below 18).
The move should encourage the society for a better participation of women in all spheres of life, including the defence forces, at all stages of their lives.
