Navratri 2020 day four: All you need to know about worshiping Maa Kushmanada

Devotees celebrate the fourth day of Navratri 2020 on Tuesday and it is the day for worshipping Maa Kushmanda. The name of the Goddess means “cosmic egg”. Her mortal figure is seen with eight-arms holding chakra, kalash, gada, kamandal, rosary, lotus, bow and arrow.

Also known as Ashtabhuja, she is said to bless devotees with good health, prosperity and strength.

Rituals for the worship: Devotees can offer green cardamom, pumpkin seeds and fennel seeds. Women devotees also offer red bangles, red-coloured clothes and red flowers. The mantra to be chanted during the puja is “Ya Devi sarvabhooteshu maa kushmanda rupen sansthita, namastasyayi namastasyayi namastasyayi namo namah”.

Mythology around Maa Kushmanda: There is not origin story for the Goddess as she is believed to have created the universe with her smile when there was absolute darkness all over and the light of her smile created everything. Maa Kushmanda is said to reside at the core of the Sun and even provide energy to the Sun.

Colour and food colour: Maa Kushmanda is believed to like green colour and devotees therefore prefer wearing green dress and consume green-coloured food.

Devotees also recite the Durga Saptashati after offering the puja
