Navratri 2020 day two: All you need to do about worshipping Maa Brahmacharini

Sunday marks the second day of the ongoing Navratri 2020 and we bring you details of all the rituals, how to worship Maa Brahmacharini, the clothes you may wear and the food you may eat while observing Navratri fast.

Maa Brahmacharini is considered as the deity of abstinence. She signifies love, loyalty and knowledge. Brahmacharini holds a rosary in her right hand and a Kamandal in the left and is also seen wearing a rudraksha necklace.

She is said to bless devotees with emotional strength, mental balance and confidence. She is also supposed to keep negative energy, selfishness, ego, greed and laziness away.

Rituals to worship Maa Brahmacharini:

Maa Brahmacharini likes lotus and hibiscus flowers, beetle leaves, cloves and milk.

The mantra to be recited is

“Ya devi sarvabhoteshu brahmacharini roopena sansthita, namastayayi namastasyayi namastasyayi namo namaha (I salute the divine power that resides everywhere in this universe, Goddess Brahmacharini).”

Mythological story of Brahmacharini:

She is said to be Himalaya’s daughter and the unmarried form of Parvati. Heeding to Narada’s advice, Brahmacharini observed tapa for thousands of years and survived on wood apple leaves, also known as belpatra or bilva patra.

What to eat and wear:

Clad in white, Maa Brahmacharini loves the colour and her devotees dress themselves in white and eat food that is white in colour to please the Goddess.
