Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav dead, son Akhilesh Yadav pays tributes

Veteran leader and former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Mulayam Singh Yadav died Monday morning in Delhi. He had been admitted to the Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, Haryana. “The sad demise of Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav has happened at 8:16am after prolonged illness at Medanta Hospital, Gurugram,” the hospital said in a statement.

His son, Samjwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav paid his tributes in a statement shared by the official account of his party.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the first ones to tweet his respects to the late leader. “Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav Ji was a remarkable personality. He was widely admired as a humble and grounded leader who was sensitive to people’s problems. He served people diligently and devoted his life towards popularising the ideals of Loknayak JP and Dr. Lohia.”

“My respected father, everyone’s leader is no more,” he said. Yadav senior was fondly known as Netaji. He had been in the Mednata hospital IICU since October 2. Aam Aadmi Party founder and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, BJP’s central ministers Piyush Goyal, Nitin Gadkari and former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah also paid their tributes to the leader.

In the last health bulletin issued by Medanta Hospital, the hospital had said, “Mulayam Singh Yadav ji is quite critical today and on life saving drugs, he is being treated in the ICU of Medanta Hospital, Gurgaon by a comprehensive team of specialists.”
