Deoria woman beaten up for asking for ticket by UP Congress leaders, NCW demands swift probe

Taking cognizance of the matter, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has urged the Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttar Pradesh for a swift investigation into the matter of a woman being beaten up by several men at a Congress meeting in the state.

A video of the woman being beaten up surfaced online and NCW chief Rekha Sharma wrote, “How all these sick minded people come in politics..?? Will be taking cognizance.”

The woman was allegedly beaten up after she objected to Mukund Bhaskar Mani Tripathi being the party candidate for Deoria bypoll. The woman, Tara Yadav, alleged that Tripathi is accused in a rape case, and therefore not the right choice for the party’s nominee.

The Commission also sought security for the woman and her family.

Meanwhile, Tripathi has blamed Yadav for creating unnecessary ruckus, claiming he has “not been convicted in any court”.

“Very sad to hear that @INCIndia is making #Deoria issue political and blaming woman victim only. This is called victimisation of victim,” Sharma tweeted in reaction to the claims of Tripathi.
