BJP announces candidates for Mokama, Gopalganj, Dhamnagar bypolls

For the three seats going to bypolls soon in Bihar, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has named two women candidates. While Kusum Devi will file her nominations for the Gopalganj assembly seat, Sonam Devi will fight the elections for the Mokama seat. Suryabanshi Suraj Sithiaprajna is BJP’s candidate for the Dhamnagar (Scheduled Caste).

The death of Kusum Devi’s husband Subhash Singh caused a requirement for a by-poll for the Gopalganj seat. The Mokama seat fell vacant after Anant Singh was senetenced to 10 years of imprisonment in a arms-related case.

Scheduled to be held on November 3, the by-polls will be the first ones to be held under the new RJD-JDU alliance in the state.

Last week, the Election Commission of India had announced the schedule by-polls to be conducted across Maharashtra, Haryana, Bihar, Telangana, Odisha, and Uttar Pradesh on seven seats. The results are likely to be declared on November 6.
